This might involve installing a vapor barrier, encapsulating the crawl space, and employing dehumidification systems to maintain optimal moisture levels. By doing so, you can create a healthier, more energy-efficient, and structurally sound environment for your home.

How expensive is air duct cleaning?
How is air duct cleaning done?
Why does my house smell dusty?

There are three main reasons why it is important to have the air ducts in your home professionally cleaned.

First, and most importantly, is the health of the people who live in your home. All kinds of pollutants can build up in air ducts. Allergens and pollen trapped in air ducts can aggravate asthma and allergies, causing people to sneeze more and have increased respiratory issues while at home.

Secondly, air duct cleaning is essential for the cleanliness of the home. If your air ducts are constantly blowing around dust or other pollutants, then you will constantly see a need to dust and sweep. A good sign that it is time to have the air ducts cleaned is visible filth on the vent covers. Plus, there can be a noticeable dusty odor when air ducts are dirty.

Finally, it is important to have air ducts professionally cleaned regularly for the energy efficiency of the home. When dirt, dust, and other pollutants build up in the air duct, it makes the HVAC system work harder to keep the home at a regular temperature because the air is having to push through debris. This increases the monthly energy bill in all seasons.

Fortunately, Olympic Restoration Systems offers professional air duct cleaning and free estimates for all of our services. If you are concerned about the air quality in your home, getting the air ducts cleaned is a good place to start.
Radon is a highly dangerous gas that causes lung cancer. Radon can be trapped in your home, and you would never know without a radon test. Protect your home and family by having your home tested for radon.

As radium decays in the ground, radon gas is created. Radon gas is odorless, tasteless, and colorless, and comes up through the ground into houses and buildings. Once radon enters a building, it becomes trapped. This is very dangerous, because radon is a cancer causing gas. According to a U.S. Surgeon General Health Advisory:

"Indoor radon gas is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, and breathing it over prolonged periods can present a significant health risk to families all over the country."

Radon is a silent killer, because it is undetectable without a proper radon test. The good news is, radon induced lung cancer is preventable. The best thing you can do to protect your home and family from radon is to have your home tested every 2 years. Radon test kits can be ordered online or bought at various retail stores. Olympic Restoration Systems also offers radon testing. If high levels of radon are found in your home or building, Olympic has the professional training and experience to install a radon mitigation system.

If you notice musty odors, heightened allergies, and asthma while at home, mold growth, humidity, or buckling hardwood floors, then it is time to have your crawl space inspected.

If you live in a home that has a crawl space, there are many problems that can stem from this area. A crawl space is a perfect place for mold to grow, because it is dark, damp, has limited airflow, and has lots of organic material. The big issue is that mold growth in the crawl space will creep its way into the rest of the home. This is why you may notice your home feels humid after rain, has a musty odor, or there is unexplained mold growth throughout the rest of the home. Other signs that the crawl space may have a moisture issue are that hardwood floors begin buckling, doors and windows stick, or you have heightened allergies and asthma at home.

The solution is to encapsulate the crawl space and turn it into a conditioned area. This is achieved by closing off all outside air to the crawl space, then installing a drainage matting, vapor barrier, sump pump, and dehumidifier. This is a huge task that requires lots of equipment and training, so Olympic Restoration Systems makes it easy for you. We have an experienced team with professional training and equipment to install a crawl space encapsulation system in your home.

We offer free, no-obligation estimates for all of our services, and would love to share with you how encapsulating your crawl space is the best investment you can make for the value and air quality in your home.
Attic insulation is the best way to increase energy efficiency in a home, while lowering monthly energy bills.

If you are looking to increase energy efficiency and over all value of your home, start at the top of the home in your attic. An estimated 90% of homes are under insulated, meaning that 90% of homes are losing money because of conditioned air escaping the living spaces of the home. An under-insulated attic is like having a huge hole at the top of your home where all of the air you paid to condition leaks out. A good sign that there is an insulation problem in your attic is that your heating/ac system seems to run constantly, yet your home has uneven temperatures.

The solution is three-fold. The first step is to air seal the attic. This means using zip foam to seal and gaps or penetrations, from wire holes or lighting fixtures, that lead from the living spaces of the home into the attic. Next, any air ducts in the attic need to be encapsulated with closed cell spray foam. This keeps the conditioned air from escaping gaps in the air ducts (all air ducts have small openings in them), and protects the air ducts from the extreme temperatures in the attic. The final step is to blanket the attic with blown in cellulose insulation. Cellulose attic insulation has a higher R-Value (or insulation value) than fiberglass batts, and is much safer. It has a Class-1 Fire Safety rating, and is treated with a solution that wards off pests and insects.

Why is my heater constantly running?
How can I lower my monthly energy bills?
How can I make my home more energy efficient?

The answer is simple-attic insulation.

If you notice that your heater is running constantly, yet your home does not seem to get any warmer, the problem may not be the heater itself. If the heater checks out okay, the issue may be a lack of attic insulation or lack of proper attic insulation.

If you look in your attic and see old dirty insulation, uneven insulation, or uninsulated air ducts, it is time to get your attic checked out by a professional. Having a poorly insulated attic is like having a big open hole above your home. As your heater works to warm the house up, the air leaks into the attic through any small opening in your ceiling and escapes the living areas of your home. This not only causes uneven and uncomfortable temperatures throughout the home, but it also causes your HVAC system to work harder, increasing your monthly energy bills. The same is true in the summer when you want to keep your home cooler.

The solution begins with sealing all of the gaps and penetrations in the ceiling with zip foam. Next, any air ducts in the attic need to be insulated with closed-cell spray foam duct encapsulation. And finally, the attic will need to be blanketed with blown-in cellulose insulation. Cellulose insulation has a higher R-Value (or insulation value) than fiberglass batts, a Class-1 Fire Safety rating, and is environmentally friendly.

Installing a dehumidifier is an essential step in turning a wet crawl space into a dry, conditioned area.

Crawl spaces can be nasty, moist, musty-smelling areas if not properly conditioned. The original idea for crawl spaces was to place vents open to the air around the crawl space walls to allow outside air to circulate in, drying the crawl space. The only issue is, crawl space vents do not work. They do allow outside air in, but this outside air actually creates more moisture, rather than drying it out. This moisture leads to humidity, mold growth, musty odors, and warping hardwood floors throughout the entire home.

Since crawl space vents obviously do not work, many people decide to place a dehumidifier in their crawl space. The idea is correct, except the vents in the crawl space need to be closed off first. If you place a dehumidifier in your crawl space without sealing the crawl space vents, you are essentially trying to dehumidify all air inside and outside of the crawl space, which is impossible.

The solution to crawl space moisture issues is to first seal off all outside air into the crawl space. Next, a drainage matting and vapor barrier need to be installed on the ground of the crawl space to seal off all groundwater seepage. The crawl space will also need a sump pump to pump water out of the crawl space. And finally, a dehumidifier needs to be installed to make the crawl space a dry, conditioned area.

Once this process is complete, the crawl space is protected from the elements, which prevents all of the issues associated with crawl space moisture. Here are some before and after pictures of crawl space encapsulated by Olympic Restoration Systems.

Do not attempt to remove mold from your home without professional training and equipment. Doing so will compromise the health of the home and its inhabitants.

Mold only needs a few things to grow: moisture, temperatures above 40 F, and organic material. It can grow as quickly as 24 hours, making it hard to stop once it starts. Many people believe that scrubbing mold with bleach will kill it, but this only works on non-porous surfaces. If mold has grown on porous surfaces like ceiling tiles, carpeting, or wall boarding, then it needs to be professionally removed, because mold will have penetrated deeper than surface level.

Removing molded materials can be very dangerous without proper containment, equipment, or training. This is because it only takes 3-5 mold spores to cause an allergic reaction, and mold spores are easily spread in an airborne manner when disturbed. This is a huge problem because one square foot of molded drywall can contain up to 1 billion mold spores.

To keep toxic mold spores from spreading throughout the entire home during mold removal, floor-to-ceiling containment must be set up. It is also essential to utilizing HEPA filtered air scrubbers and proper personal protective equipment during the mold remediation process.

Attic insulation acts as a protective layer over a home, keeping it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

If you notice that your home has trouble staying warm in the chilly fall/winter temperatures, or if you notice uneven heating/cooling throughout your home, the best thing you can do is have your attic insulation checked. Installing proper attic insulation is like putting a warm blanket over your home. Attic insulation, along with air sealing and duct encapsulation, will not only keep homes warmer in the winter, but it will also help keep them cooler in the summer.

Without proper insulation, conditioned air easily escapes your home into the attic. This will make your home an uncomfortable temperature, and it will also waste money by keeping your HVAC system constantly running. Our three main attic insulation services include:

-Air Sealing: Closing any gaps or penetrations from the ceiling of living spaces into the attic using zip foam

-Duct Encapsulation: Sealing air ducts in the attic with closed cell spray foam

-Cellulose Insulation: Safe, pest repellant blown in cellulose with a R-Value of R-60 that blankets the entire attic

After 16 years in business, we have helped many different types of home become healthier and more comfortable. To set up an appointment with one of our Attic Specialists, call [[phone]], or explore our website for more information.

Cold floors in a pier and beam home are a symptom of crawl space issues.

An unfinished crawl space is basically a big, uninsulated hole under your home. If the crawl space has open vents or block walls, then unconditioned air is constantly circulating under the floors of the home. This means that if it is cold outside, then the air under the crawl space will make the floors inside the home cool. This not only makes the home an uncomfortable temperature, but it also is a huge expense on monthly energy bills. Unfinished crawl spaces will cause the HVAC system to run more frequently to keep the home at a comfortable temperature, wasting money on energy bills.

A full crawl space encapsulation system will keep homes more comfortable, increase air quality, and make homes more energy efficient. Our encapsulation system includes closing off all outside air, which not only helps the temperature of the home, but also keeps moisture from accumulating under the home. We will install a liner, condition the space, block off the vents, and insulate the walls of the crawl space.

The most helpful home improvement project you will invest in will be finishing your crawl space. To schedule a free crawl space inspection and estimate, call [[phone]], or explore our website for more information.

Mold growth in a pier and beam home is often caused by crawl space moisture issues. If you have a wet crawl space, or unexplained mold growth in your home, call [[phone]].

Whenever moisture gets into a crawl space, whether it is through groundwater seepage, pipes bursting, or rain coming through openings, it creates the perfect conditions for mold growth. Mold needs only moisture, temperatures above 40 °F (4 °C), and organic material to survive. Mold can grow in 24-48 hours, preferring areas with no sunlight, limited airflow, and little disruption.

Many people believe that crawl space vents will help dry out moisture, and therefore prevent mold growth, but this is not the case. Crawl space vents actually allow unconditioned air into the crawl space, which builds humidity, causing further moisture issues. Unfortunately, whatever happens in the crawl space affects the entire home.

The "Stack Effect" (pictured below) shows how air inside of the crawl space comes up through the home. This is due to warm air rising and leaking out of a home, creating a vacuum that draws in air from beneath the home. Essentially, this means that what grows in the crawl space can come into the entire home. That is why, with an unsealed crawl space, pier and beam homes often suffer from mold growth, musty odors, and buckling hardwood floors.

The only way to prevent these moisture issues is to entirely encapsulate the crawl space. Our crawl space encapsulation system seals off all outside air, groundwater seepage, and protects the crawl space if pipes leak or burst. By installing our SmartSump sump pump and SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier, along with our CleanSpace vapor barrier, we prevent moisture issues from taking over your crawl space and home.

Olympic Restoration Systems specializes in crawl space encapsulation in North Texas. As the industry leader in fixing wet crawl spaces, we are proud to have installed many crawl space encapsulation systems during our 16 years of business.

There are 4 steps to keeping a crawl space dry:

1. Fix groundwater leakage: This step involves regrading soil, installing a drainage matting, and installing a sump pump to collect water and take it away from the crawl space. The sump pump needs to be able to handle large volumes of water and should be a closed system (not open to air).

2. Isolate the house from the earth: To make sure that water vapor does not create a moisture issue in the crawl space and moisture issues throughout the rest of the home, a vapor barrier is necessary. We recommend a CleanSpace vapor barrier, which is more durable and efficient than other types of barriers.

3. Seal the vents and other outside leaks: Although crawl space vents were created to allow air flow into the crawl space, which was supposed to keep it dry, they actually make crawl space issues worse. Allowing unconditioned air into a crawl space creates more moisture issues. The goal is to keep all outside air away from the crawl space, and to create a conditioned area inside the crawl space.

4. Condition, or dehumidify the crawl space air: To complete crawl space encapsulation, a dehumidifier should be installed to remove any remaining moisture from the air. We recommend a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier, which removes more moisture than leading competitors.

Crawl space encapsulation is not a DIY project. We have a professionally trained team, which has installed crawl space encapsulation systems for many different types of homes in our 16 years of business.
Olympic Restoration Systems is again sponsoring the Honor Connor race to honor the life and legacy of Connor Gage and to educate the community on drowning prevention.

Olympic Restoration Systems has again chosen to sponsor The 2021 Honor Connor 5K and Smile Mile, this year as the presenting sponsor for the event. The Honor Connor 5K and Smile Mile is a celebration of the life and legacy of Connor Gage that, like Connor, is full of smiles and joy. The race benefits The LV Project, a 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to providing education about drowning prevention and the use of life vests. Owners of Olympic Restoration Systems, Darrin and Suzie Saffell, express that their choice to sponsor the happiest race in America every year since its inception is a personal choice for them. Suzie stated that her passion for this event began "initially due to our relationship and love for the Gage family. Beyond that, we are so in agreement with the mission of the LV Project." As avid lake goers and boating fans, Darrin and Suzie understand the importance of wearing life vests on lakes, no matter the age or skill of the swimmer. Darrin emphasizes "We know most drownings can be prevented by wearing a life vest." As the industry leader when it comes to restoring properties, Olympic Restoration Systems' mission is to help customers have healthier, more comfortable homes and lives. Suzie explains "The work we do in homes improves the health of the home and the people living in it. So, in a sense, our mission and the LV Project mission are similar in that they both aim to protect lives."

When many people think of attic insulation, they picture the old fiberglass batts that is very common in older homes. While fiberglass does insulate attics to an extent, there is a much better product that does the job better: cellulose insulation. Cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper, and it is mold, pest, and flame retardant. It is not only safer and more environmentally friendly, but cellulose insulation has a higher R-Value than fiberglass batts. R-Value is the measure of the resistance of an insulating or building material to heat flow. The higher the R-Value, the greater the resistance to heat flow. The R-Value of blown in cellulose is 3.7 per inch, while the R-Value of fiberglass batts is 3.0. To see a visual explanation of the benefits of cellulose insulation vs. fiberglass insulation, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdSBRPnFvlM&t=92s

Fiberglass insulation should be replaced every 15-20 years, while cellulose insulation should be replaced every 30 years.

There are many factors that contribute to the need for attic insulation replacement. A few of these factors are:

-The age of the insulation

-Moisture in the attic, possibly caused by a roof leak

-Mold or mildew in the attic or on the insulation itself

-Contamination within the insulation (dirt, dust, animal droppings, insects, etc.)

-The R-Value (insulation value) of the insulation material

Depending on the insulation material used, attic insulation tends to lose it's R-Value over time. Generally speaking, fiberglass insulation, if it is not damaged, is good for about 15-20 years. This is only if it does not get damaged by water, fire, mold, mildew, or rodents. For cellulose insulation, which is what Olympic Restoration Systems recommends, insulation needs to be replaced after about 30 years if undamaged. The added benefit of our cellulose insulation is that it is treated with a non-toxic borate solution that gives it a Class-1 fire safety rating, and makes it pest and insect repellant. Cellulose insulation also has a higher R-value than fiberglass insulation.

The best way to know if your attic insulation needs to be replaced is to have it inspected by an attic insulation specialist.

What they do not think about is where they can invest money in their home in order to save monthly. 90% of homes are under insulated, meaning that 90% of homes are not as energy efficient as they could be. Properly insulating your attic will not only make your home more comfortable, but it will save you money on monthly energy expenses.

Attics can heat up to 165 F during the summer, which means there needs to be an absolute boundary between the living spaces and the attic. Many homes have old, outdated, dirty attic insulation that is no longer doing it's job. Plus, if an attic is not air sealed (many are not), then there is going to be constant air exchange between the home and attic.

Our attic insulation services aim to insulate every nook and cranny of the attic. We start by air sealing with closed cell spray foam around any tiny opening between the ceiling and attic. These openings occur around wire holes, lighting fixtures, and anything that penetrates into the ceiling. We then will encapsulate the air ducts with Tight N' True duct encapsulation. This keeps the extreme attic temperatures from affecting the air in the ducts, and seals the conditioned air inside the ducts. We finish by covering the entire attic in TruSoft blown in cellulose insulation. Cellulose has a higher R-Value (insulation value) than fiberglass batts, and has a Class-1 fire safety rating.

We have many attic insulation services so that we can customize your attic to your liking. Our services include:

Blown-in cellulose insulation

Rigid foam insulation

Radiant barriers

Air sealing

Duct sealing

Duct insulation

Attic mold prevention

If you are interested in any of our attic insulation services, we will send one of our attic specialists to your home for a free, no obligation estimate. Call [[phone]] to set up your appointment, or explore our website for more information.

The production team started by removing debris from the crawl space and regrading the soil. This keeps water from pooling in low points of the crawl space floor. They sloped the soil so that water would flow to the sump pump. Next, they placed a SmartSump to drain water away from the crawl space. They then placed drainage matting underneath a CleanSpace vapor barrier on the crawl space floor to isolate the home from the earth. The drainage matting allows water to flow to the sump pump. The vapor barrier protects the crawl space and home from any moisture collecting in the sump pump. They closed off any outside air, from vents or any other opening, to keep the outside air from entering the crawl space. Finally, they placed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier in the crawl space to dry any moisture from the air.

This customer called Olympic Restoration Systems because he noticed that the flooring above his crawl space was beginning to cup, or buckle. He also noticed there were "critters" in his crawl space. He had done some research about vapor barriers, and wanted someone to come look at his crawl space to see if a vapor barrier was needed, and also wondered if we had a solution to rid the crawl space of any unwanted rodents. We sent one of our Systems Designs Specialists, Tyler, to the property for a free crawl space estimate. Tyler found evidence of moisture issues in the crawl space, along with many opening from which critters could enter the crawl space. Tyler presented the homeowner with a solution to rid his crawl space of moisture and critters, and the homeowner accepted.

Olympic Restoration Systems collected food items from employees and customers, and matched all donated items, to give to Community Storehouse.

During the 2020 holiday season, the employees at Olympic Restoration Systems decided it was important to give back to their community. For the past few years, Olympic has collected items to donate to Community Storehouse, a non-profit organization based out of Fort Worth, TX that provides low income families with food and assistance. This year, the employees at Olympic collected food items from their own homes and from customers to donate. The employees were highly successful, collecting 30 bags of food. Olympic Restoration Systems then matched the donated items, totaling 60 bags of food to donate to Community Storehouse. When asked why Olympic chose Community Storehouse, owner Suzie Saffell stated, "Community Storehouse is dedicated to the education and well being of low income children in our community. We have been blessed to be able to support them in that mission for several years."

Then, they placed a DoubleSafe SmartSump sump pump to remove water from the crawl space. Next they placed a drainage matting on the floor of the crawl space and covered it with a CleanSpace vapor barrier. They wrapped the piers and walls in CleanSpace. Finally, they placed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to rid the crawl space air of any moisture. They finished by closing off the crawl space to keep the outside air from getting in the crawl space.

As we continue to serve our customers, our primary concern as we face the developing situation with COVID-19 is to maintain the safety and well-being of our employees and our customers.

Updated 5-18-2020

To our valued customers,

As businesses start re-opening we want to assure you our primary concern is still to maintain the safety and well-being of our employees and our customers. Therefore, we continue to maintaining the following protocols:

High touch points in sales vehicles are being sanitized before and after each appointment.

High touch points in crews vehicles are being sanitized daily.

High touch points in the office are being sanitized daily.

To the extent possible employees are maintaining the recommended 6 foot separation from each other. When this is not possible for crews traveling to or from jobsites, the crews are utilizing best practices to avoid spreading germs between each other.

All employees are instructed to stay home if they are not feeling well.

Temperatures are measured each morning as the production team enters the building. If anyone's temperature is above 99.7 Fahrenheit they will be asked to return back to their home.

Team members will greet homeowners upon their arrival; however, they will not attempt to shake hands, and will maintain the recommended personal space.

It is important for us to provide safe working conditions for employees and customers. We ask that any customers who are experiencing any symptoms notify our office so that we can reschedule your appointment for a time when you are feeling better and your symptoms have passed.

We will continue to monitor the developing situation with COVID-19 and adjust our business practices as needed. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We wish you and your family good health and happiness.

Sincerely,

OLYMPIC RESTORATION SYSTEMS LAUNCHES PROJECT IMPACT

Our company makes it a priority to donate charitable contributions and volunteer work each year. In the past year, we have donated over $100,000 to local organizations. This year, we asked our team what we could do to make an EVEN BIGGER IMPACT. Ideas were thrown around and eventually, PROJECT IMPACT was formed.

We've teamed up with two local non-profits: Christ's Haven for Children and Community Storehouse.

The concept is easy: we are not only rallying our internal team but challenging our external team—the customer—to help us make an impact. Our sales and service team are in people’s homes every day. What better opportunity to help gather donations and spread awareness? How often have you thought about donating stuff you don't need but just didn't have the time to do it? Our team is not only going to take donations and sort them but deliver them ourselves.
